AI-powered martech news and releases: April 17

Who needs Big Brother when you have LG smart TVs? The devices could soon be doing more than just displaying content; they could monitor how you react to it. The company has partnered with Zenapse to use AI to analyze viewers’ inferred emotions and behaviors

LG wants to categorize viewers into hyper-specific market segments based on these inferred psychological traits and consumption patterns. This data is gathered by analyzing what you watch and how you interact with your TV, including information from automatic content recognition. It will be used to target the already irritating ads on your home screen and across LG’s webOS.

What could go wrong? I’m sure no one will be upset by having their TV watch them in the bedroom and elsewhere. I’m also sure the systems won’t collect information from children, because that would be wrong.

At least it’s for a good cause: Using you to make money for corporations. And hey, in return, you get ads tailored to your interests, and what could be better than that?
